Doctoral research at the intersection of web archiving, scientometrics, and data quality:
what exhaustiveness can mean for a crawl that is potentially unbounded, and how to
assess longitudinal archives against it. The testbed was the German Academic Web — semi-annual
crawls of German universities — where I supervised crawl operations with Heritrix, Scrapy,
and ArchiveSpark.
A second thread looked at how collaboration forms: five dimensions of proximity — cognitive,
institutional, organizational, social, geographical — applied to German AI research using
HypTrails and graph embeddings over DBLP and patent data.
Taught Web Science (MSc) and Information Processing & Storage with PostgreSQL (BSc).
The resulting papers are on the research page.
Research Fellow, Physics of Complex Systems
Weizmann Institute of Science · 2016 – 2017
Geometric and topological constraints in liquid crystals — compatibility conditions for
director fields in three dimensions, worked through with differential geometry and moving frames.
M.Sc. Physics
Technische Universität Berlin · 2012 – 2016
Theoretical track, focused on statistical physics in non-equilibrium and soft matter.
Thesis: Investigation of the influence of scaffold architecture on in vivo tissue
formation — how the curvature of an implanted scaffold steers new tissue and its
mineralisation in bone regeneration, modelled and compared with experiment. Published as
Scaffold curvature-mediated novel
biomineralization process originates a continuous soft tissue-to-bone interface
(Acta Biomaterialia, 2017).
B.Sc. Physics
Freie Universität Berlin · 2008 – 2012
Computational quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics of proteins — P-type ATPases, ion
channels, protein folding — including force-field parametrisation, fitting dihedral and
torsional potentials to quantum-chemical calculations with Gaussian. Thesis: Towards
accurate force field description of phosphorylated aspartate systems — how the
phosphorylated aspartate mediates proton transport in a P-type H⁺-ATPase, a proton pump.
